First ask raised for a proclamation of Pride Week (A. Brewer). Complaint filed.
Complaint finally launched, the Mayor of Fredericton refuses to read proclamation.
New Brunswick Human Rights Commission forces Mayor to comply, controversy ensues.
First proclamation read on November 10th, 1998. Has been read annually since.

Various pride events take place, despite no organized festival or week.
FLAG (Fredericton Lesbians and Gays) very active. March in Canada Day Parade.
“Capital City Pride” is held June 22 to 28.
No parade is held.
Events include: Church service, sports day, tubing, king and queen drag show, karaoke, concert.
First city supported festival, parade, and flag raising August 8th to 15th.
Parade was held on walking trail.

Estimated 1000 viewers/festival goers.
Events include: Queer his/herstory night, naked art show, kink/fetish night.
Pride Week held August 7th to 14th.
Grand Marshal: James Whitehead
Events include: Screening of “Stonewall Uprising!”, queer literary coffeehouse, all-ages after party.
Pride Week held August 5th to 11th.
First street parade!
Grand Marshal: Adrian Park
Events include: Queer Theory Collective all-ages dance.
